Learning about Left, Right, Up, and Down

Start by teaching your student laterality or the internal awareness of the body’s left and right sides. Then, you can progress to teaching students to distinguish left and right with objects, such as shoes. Make sure to sit or stand next to your student rather than across from them when teaching and use your own body to demonstrate.

Learning about North, South, East, and  West

Explain that there are four main directions a person can go: north, east, south and west. Show how you have labeled these directions on the walls. Ask the students to stand up. Ask them to point forward; this is north. Then, ask them to point to the right; this is east. If they point behind them, this is south
