Day 1

Take out a blank piece of paper and take notes of what you will learn about Day 1 of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Apply what you have learned from writing class about Informational Text and include a title, subtitles, and details. Don't forget to cite your source!
The Lesson
Activity 1
Explore a virtual picture and video tour of the Battle of Gettysburg. Select 3-4 of the locations to take notes on. Spend about 15 minutes on this website.

Activity 2
Learn more about how people who lived in Gettysburg were affected by the first day of the battle. Click on the photos on the bottom once you get to the website. Select 2-3 people to take notes about the role they played on July 1st, day 1, of the battle.

Activity 3
Read more about the 1st day and also click on the North and South tabs to become familiar with the various Officers and not just Lee and Meade. Take notes on Lee, Meade, and 2 other Officers from the North and 2 other Officers from the South.

    Write in your own words from your notes what happened Day 1 of the Battle of Gettysburg and must include: Who was there, what was going on, when did this happen, where did this take place, why was this going on, at least 6 details, and cite your source.
